Buenas Tardes de Madrid!

Hola Amigas!

Travelling alone to Madrid was actually quite peaceful - somehow I found my own solitude despite the hoards of people, unlucky plane seating, and full flights. People make for a very interesting watching - especially Americans. From the 4 young ladies to my left at Cibo in the Philly airport who were doing their best to be the 20-something cast of the Sex and the City ladies or the 6 moms sitting in front of me at the same restaurant who appeared to be trying to personify a "married with children" version of the same cast. Funny.

Spain is fabulous. Amazing (A-MAZ-ING) art all around. It's almost overwhelming! Saw Picasso's Guernica yesterday ... today more Picasso, Juan Gris, Leger (Leger!!), Miro, Kandinsky along side Pollock, Monet, Hopper and Rothko [Alma Mater Lincoln High School Portland, Oregon and co-alumni with other such famous graduates as Matt Groening ("The Simpsons") and Christy Lacey-Krietz (aka "Rally" or "CLK") - no introduction necessary, really;)].

Siesta's are basically mandatory and as a guest (with major jet-lag) who am I to protest? Lunch doesn't start until 2pm and dinner not until 9, and the night doesn't officially end until its tIme for your morning cafe con leche - best I've EVER had.

Running? Nah, but ladies some serious cross-training on the dance floor last night - new dress and my favorite CFM's (3 1/2 inch MJ's) por supuesto! (of course!) - I was faking the funk like a Spanish pro. "Luckily" the wedding videographer and mi papa have more than enough video coverage - fingers crossed it doesn't show up on Google Video one day...

Tomorrow... Toledo and a bullfight (thought it'd be sold out but concierge says they can get tickets a place called the 'black market'... hmm must be a locals-only place, couldn't find it in my guidebook ;)

Hasta Luego.

Good Times in the SB-VW

For the past two weeks the SBV has miniaturized in to the SB-VW's. Last week it was the 1.8T (T for 'Turbo'!) and this week it was the Jetta berry blast. MD and KWaz trekked up to the city after the rest of us SBV'ers bailed for various reasons. Despite unfortunate turn of events at Kezar - namely the gates being closed and having to do hill repeats at the end of the track season - the SB-VW rallied post workout for some good'ol girl talk over zen noodles and beer - ya, no carb fears here! Basically a warm up for this weekend's book club (or as Janet likes to call it "book club").

Now prior to this evening I knew the ladies of the SBV were dynamic, smart, and smokin' fast, but smokin' hot when it comes time to 'play'? I should have known. Well, this SBV'er sure learned a thing or two about her teammates and what it means when a certain SBV'er offers "dinner at her place" . . . good times.

And with that, happy hump day tomorrow ;)

Superstitious?

So i heard 'Superstition' was a success - can we get some picts on the blog please for those of us who were asleep at 9pm last night . . . hey, don't playa hate, we're all not as young as we used to be! Not to worry, we're not that old, either - the CFM's still come out at least once a weekend...maybe tonight ;)

Zippy and practice

Wow! Is the only word to describe the Impalas at the Zippy 5K this past weekend. The SBV was well represented as seven south bayers met (this might be a record turnout ladies) in the early hours on Sunday morning. The Impalas ran tough and fielded A and B teams in the open, masters and seniors categories. We also had an A team in the super-senior category. Overall 38 Imapalas raced, a very impressive turnout.

On to the workout last night. We picked it up with sets of 800-400-200, I personally enjoyed the workout and I think my other two south bay mates (and other non-south bayers) would agree that it was fun to do something a bit faster. We are on our final stretch before the team break in June. Many of us are racing in the catwomen pede and some even in the elite division at bay to breakers this coming Sunday. Don't forget to add the "Superstition" party in SF hosted by the team this friday night to your calendar of events when the Impalas get to show they can party like rock stars.

Impalas on Channel 7 news

First a quick report of practice this past Tuesday. We stuffed the SBV (well this week it was actually the south bay accord- compliments of michelle) and flew up to practice. The car was a buzz with all sorts of topics, such as Shal's proposal, Michelle's house hunting and Katie's social life. Although megan was busy at the hospital she managed to drive herself and make it to the workout as well, so the SBV group was well represented.
The workout was 600's and the impalas proved once again that they have speed! The big exitcitment of practice though was not necessarily the workout but our celebration of our team winning the team title at the Boston Marathon this year. Yes are very own Caroline, Sara and Ginger brought the team home victorious and we could not be happier. We had a small ceremony with a presentation of the awards by the coaches and a quick photo. This title has brought interest in our team and Channel 7 news was at practice Tuesday, filming us during the workout and then interviewing Sue, Cheryl and Caroline. It aired last night (I must admit I was skeptical if it would really air) at about 6:45 hope everyone caught it!
